Lopez Powers Offensive Explosion as Atlantis University Rolls Past UIC Eagle Rays
A relentless offensive surge, highlighted by a dominant performance from Lopez, carried Atlantis University to a commanding 24-10 victory over UIC Eagle Rays on Thursday.
Lopez delivered a statement game at the plate, launching two home runs—including a grand slam—and driving in six runs to anchor a 20-hit attack. His impact came at pivotal moments, shifting momentum firmly in favor of the Atlanteans.
Atlantis wasted no time setting the tone. In the opening inning, Astudillo put the team on the board with an RBI single, followed by Guerrero's two-run double and an RBI knock from Chung to build an early advantage. Knowles Jr. added to the lead in the second with a run-scoring single. UIC Eagle Rays responded aggressively in the bottom half of the second, erupting for six runs to seize a 9-6 lead. The turning point in that inning came on a grand slam by De Aza, briefly flipping control of the game.
Atlantis countered immediately. Ruiz launched a two-run home run in the third to close the gap, and after UIC added another run, the Atlanteans delivered the decisive blow in the fourth. A seven-run inning, fueled by six hits, flipped the game once again. Lopez's two-run homer to center field highlighted the rally and restored a firm lead. The offense remained relentless. In the seventh, Atlantis broke the game open with a nine-run inning, capitalizing on plate discipline and timely power. The sequence included multiple bases-loaded walks before Lopez capped the surge with a grand slam to left, putting the contest out of reach.
On the mound, Bracho provided stability and control, earning the win with five innings of one-hit, shutout baseball while striking out five. After a brief and rocky start from Encarnacion, the Atlantis bullpen settled in effectively, with Villalobos and Uribe contributing in relief. Six Atlanteans recorded three-hit performances—Guerrero, Astudillo, Valbuena, Knowles Jr., Ruiz, and Lopez—underscoring the lineup's depth and consistency. The team also demonstrated discipline at the plate, drawing 10 walks and consistently putting pressure on the opposition. UIC Eagle Rays II showed flashes offensively, with De Aza driving in four runs and multiple players contributing multi-hit efforts. However, they were unable to contain Atlantis University's sustained offensive attack. Atlantis University combined power, patience, and depth to overwhelm its opponent, delivering one of its most complete offensive performances of the season.
