Late Push Falls Short as Atlantis University Drops 6-5 Thriller
Atlantis University mounted an aggressive response after an early deficit but came up just short in a 6-5 loss to Millennia Atlantic University in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
Millennia Atlantic seized momentum in the opening inning, capitalizing on walks and timely situational hitting to build a 4-0 lead before Atlantis could record three outs. The early damage forced an immediate response, and Atlantis delivered. In the bottom half of the first, Atlantis University flipped the game with a five-run surge. Patient at-bats and pressure on the bases fueled the rally, highlighted by Ruiz drawing a bases-loaded walk to drive in two runs. Productive outs and disciplined execution allowed Atlantis to take a 5-4 lead despite recording just three hits in the inning.
Millennia Atlantic answered in the third, tying the game at five, before reclaiming the lead in the fifth on a fielder's choice that proved to be the difference. Atlantis University out-hit Millennia Atlantic six to five, with Astudillo, Mamarella, Valbuena, Lopez, and O'farill each contributing one hit. Guerrero, Astudillo, and Lopez each recorded an RBI, supporting the early offensive push. On the mound, Bracho provided a strong relief outing, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing no hits and striking out two. Brito absorbed the loss, while Villalobos faced early command issues that contributed to the first-inning deficit. Defensively, Atlantis executed at a high level, turning two double plays to limit further damage and keep the game within reach. Despite the resilience and early offensive turnaround, control of the strike zone and missed opportunities ultimately defined the outcome, as Atlantis University was unable to complete the comeback.
